? What Is PV Elite?
PV Elite® is a professional engineering software developed by Intergraph Process, Power & Marine (now part of Hexagon) used for designing, analyzing, evaluating, and documenting pressure vessels and heat exchangers.
It is widely recognized as an industry standard tool in pressure vessel engineering, trusted by:
- Mechanical engineers
- Fabricators and manufacturers
- EPC contractors (Engineering, Procurement & Construction)
- Inspection and certification bodies
to ensure designs meet safety, reliability, and regulatory requirements. chempute.com+1
PV Elite works by:
✔ Modeling pressure-containment equipment (shells, heads, nozzles, supports)
✔ Calculating stresses, thickness, loads and allowable limits
✔ Comparing designs to international codes
✔ Producing detailed analysis reports and documentation
Its primary function is to ensure that pressure vessels and exchangers are safe, compliant, and optimized for real‐world conditions. chempute.com
These are consistent across recent versions and form the backbone of the software: chempute.com
? Design & Modeling
- Vessel design: cylindrical, spherical, conical, and complex vessels
- Shell, head, and flange definitions
- Support modeling (legs, saddles, lugs, skirts)
- Rectangular & non-circular vessel support
- Tubesheet layouts for heat exchangers
? Analysis & Checks
- Stress & load analysis
- Internal/external pressure calculations
- Finite Element Analysis (FEA) integration options
- Wind, seismic & uplift load analysis
- Fatigue assessment
- Fitness-for-Service evaluation (API 579)
? International Codes & Standards
PV Elite supports a broad set of design codes, including: docs.hexagonppm.com
- ASME Section VIII (Div.1 & Div.2) – US standards
- EN 13445 – European standard
- PD 5500 – British standard
- AD 2000 – German vessel code
- API 579/FFS-1 – Fitness-for-Service
- Wind & seismic codes (ASCE, IBC, IS standards)
…and many more regional codes
This ensures compliance for projects around the world. docs.hexagonppm.com
? Heat Exchanger Design
- Shell-and-tube exchanger analysis
- TEMA (Tubular Exchanger Manufacturers Association) compliant
- Tube layout automation
- Thermal and mechanical effects
? Reporting & Documentation
- Detailed calculation reports
- Customizable PDF/Excel output
- 3D PDF generation
- Bill of Materials (BOM)
- Code commentary & equations included for inspection
? Integration & Workflow
PV Elite often integrates with:
- CADWorx Plant Professional (design data)
- CAESAR II (piping stress)
- Other Hexagon tools for a connected workflow
This reduces data re-entry and improves accuracy. biker.vn
While Hexagon does not always publicly publish full release notes online, based on the supported codes listing for v28 and the direction of recent updates, here’s what’s included in the v28 release:
PV Elite v28 includes the latest editions of several major design and material codes: docs.hexagonppm.com
Pressure Vessel & Material Codes
- ASME Section VIII Division 1: 2023 edition — updated design rules
- ASME Section VIII Division 2: 2023 edition
- PD 5500: 2024 edition + A1
- EN 13445-3: 2021
- AD 2000 code sections updated
- API 579 / ASME FFS-1: 2016 (fitness-for-service)
These code updates ensure your designs follow the very latest regulatory requirements globally. docs.hexagonppm.com
v28 includes expanded material standards and database handling, including:
- Updated material property tables
- Support for newer flange, bolt, and plate material classifications
- Better integration of material codes across different standards (ASME, EN, AD 2000)
This improves accuracy in stress and thickness calculations. docs.hexagonppm.com
Beyond ASME, v28 supports broad international codes, enabling easier compliance for projects in Europe, North America, Asia and beyond. docs.hexagonppm.com
While exact UI changes for v28 are not fully documented online, recent versions have focused on:
✔ Faster design workflows
✔ Improved data input dialogs
✔ Better performance on complex models
✔ Better error checking & warnings
✔ More intuitive output and reporting tools
These improvements make PV Elite easier to use and reduce engineering time. biker.vn
PV Elite continues to work seamlessly with Hexagon’s design ecosystem (CADWorx / CAESAR II), improving cross-discipline collaboration. biker.vn
PV Elite is used in sectors where pressure vessels and exchangers are critical, such as: chempute.com
✅ Oil & Gas
✅ Petrochemical & Chemical Processing
✅ Power Generation (incl. nuclear)
✅ Pharmaceuticals
✅ Food & Beverage
✅ Shipbuilding & Marine
✅ Water / Utilities
✅ Renewable Energy Projects
In these fields, safety, compliance, and efficiency are essential — so PV Elite’s rigorous design and analysis capabilities are crucial.
Upgrading to the latest version provides:
✔ Strongest Regulatory Compliance
You get up-to-date code support and new standards implemented. docs.hexagonppm.com
✔ More Accurate & Reliable Calculations
Especially for fatigue, material strength, environmental loads, and complex geometries.
✔ Better Productivity
Faster workflows with improved dialogs and data handling. biker.vn
✔ Future-proof Engineering
Support for evolving industry codes and interoperability provides long-term value for engineering teams.
- PV Elite uses Smart Licensing (Hexagon ISL).
- Compatibility with Windows 10/11 is standard.
- Official releases with support & updates are provided through Hexagon’s support portal.
Unofficial versions, cracks, or redistributed copies found on blogs/forums should be avoided, as they may be illegal and expose users to security risks.
